Flexible Assembly Line – Automatic Meal Pre-setting system

For many years, airline meals are being pre-assembled manually by operators. There is one conveyor belt whereby operators are standing along the belt to place the service ware for instance, cups, plates, bowl, condiment, etc directly onto the moving tray. Another operator at the end of the belt will then unload the completed tray from the belt and charge into the cart.

We designed and built a complete automatic line using vision robotic to pick (complete hygiene compliance) the service wares from the bin and place directly onto the tray. We also managed to develop the 360 all-round inspection systems to perform 100% quality inspection on the hygiene cleanliness of the service wares before pre-setting. In view of the complex operation of the different menu setting, we have also developed a Meal Automated Tray Assembly computerized system to simplify the tray calculation and setup whereby even the non-technically trained operator is able to command the robot with ease!

This invention managed to reduce the manpower by 50% and even with all the robotic system and vision device; we managed to design the system within the footprint similar to a manual operation.

The unique layout of this system which allows us to compact the system into a small footprint and the breakthrough in the 360 inspection as well as the automatic meal setup computing algorithm allow us to fully automate the airline setting with highest quality inspection.
